About
hiking-pace visualises how your actual walking pace varies with terrain slope, using GPS data from your hikes.
How to use
- Export a hike as a
.gpxfile from your GPS device or app (Garmin, Strava, Komoot…) - Drop the file onto the chart — you can load multiple tracks at once
- Hover a track name below the chart to highlight its data
- Click Save as PNG to export the chart
Reading the chart
- Grey curve — Swiss hiking model
- The theoretical pace model used by SwitzerlandMobility, empirically fitted to Swiss trail data. Pace is lowest around flat terrain and increases steeply on both steep descents and climbs.
- Red curve — Your pace (regression)
- A degree-4 polynomial fitted to your measured segments. Shows your personal pace model over the slope range actually covered in the track.
